Chronic Depression

Dysthymia is another name for chronic depression. Although not as serious as Major Depression, this is a severe illness. Someone you know may have Chronic Depression and you would not know it. Having a regular life is very possible for people with this condition. They go to work or school and go about their daily lives without so much as to cause a ripple in the water. Of course it’s invisible to the outside world because the effects from this illness are on the inside.

The symptoms are mental and physical. Shaking, dizziness, or a fever won’t result from Chronic Depression. A rash won’t break out on your body. But victims may feel hopeless, worthless and out of control. Sleeping disorders such as nightmares and insomnia may develop. This illness can leave the victim with a constant sad or empty feeling that threatens to consume them . Usually those affected by the disease may also experience episodes of thinking about death or suicide . Normally those with Chronic Depression do a good job of concealing these symptoms.

When an illness is born mentally you have to often look very closely to catch these symptoms. It is not always obvious.There are a few major treatment options for people with Chronic Depression. Psychotherapy, attacking a mental illness with a mental solution, is one of the more popular approaches. Through Psychotherapy the Doctor can attempt to find the cause of the depression and work towards infusing a positive outlook for the patient. The other option is to prescribe Anti-Depressants that will assist in slowing of the affliction.

Both Psychotherapy and drugs are generally combined to treat chronic depression. The patient may not yet have Major Depression, but Chronic Depression can lead there. Early detection is key. When Chronic Depression cause problems in day to day life, it has become a problem. It’s really time to act when employment or other outside activities begin to suffer. It’s not time for a straight jacket for people who suffer from Chronic Depression. Care and support are needed to address the underlying issues. Anyone can become a victim of this disease. Having knowledge about it may one day assist you or someone you know in facing it.
